This morning sees the launch of a sermon series looking at our new mission statement: Devoted to God, Devoted to One Another, bases on Acts 2:42. We will be spending the next three weeks in the morning looking at what this means for us as a church.
Over the next few weeks and months, our mission statement will be increasingly obvious around the church, along with some of the phrases we will use to support it. however, in the meantime I thought it would be helpful to spell some of those phrases out.
First, we have a set of aspirations for how we seek to become devoted to God and devoted to one another:
We want to go deeper in our knowledge and love for Christ and His people
We want to go wider in reaching more people with the good news of Jesus
We want to go higher in pursuing Christ-like character together.
Second, we remember Jesus’ summary of the law:
Mark 12:29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this:`Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this:`Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
Third, we will make use of our MATURE acrostic to think through what this looks like in practice:
Meeting God Daily
Attending Church weekly
Taking the small group challenge
Using God given gifts and resources
Reaching out in love
So keep these things in mind, as we think together on what it means to be devoted ot God abnd devoted to one another.
Yours in Christ
