WHAT IS A REPAIR CAFÉ?
A Repair Cafe is a free community space where everyone is welcome. We have two main aims: one is to help people to mend items that are broken and the other is to provide a warm, safe space for a cuppa, cake and chat. The atmosphere is incredibly positive, inspiring, hectic at times, and… fun!
We have a fantastic 17 strong team who are eager to welcome, repair, bake, clean, chat and generally give their time to serve you, our community.
We are not claiming to be restorers or even refurbishers, but we are all keen to lessen the amount of ‘stuff’ being sent to landfill by seeking to repair, reuse and recycle. All those involved are unpaid volunteers giving of their time and expertise for free although donations are always welcome for ongoing expenses. It is hoped that by sharing knowledge and skills, we may not only help each other but also learn from each other.
The Café is open to anyone, whether you have brought an item for repair or whether you just fancy a cuppa and a chat.
We also provide a knife sharpening service which is very popular and a jigsaw puzzle and magazine swap.
WHY A REPAIR CAFE?
In essence we aspire to:
- Reduce waste and promote a greener and more sustainable world
- Strengthen community ties by providing a warm, space safe to chat and enjoy refreshments
- To provide an environment for people of all ages and backgrounds to share knowledge, skills and connections
WHEN?
If you haven’t already joined in the fun, please join us on the second Saturday of every month
10am – 12noon at St Alkmund’s Church Hall
